News to me! Yeah! I learned something new today! Thank you @AnneofAlamo ! |||||||| <----- Had to try it out!
@Lor I love you! I am giggling that you learned too! tee hee...the rest of the smarties...just kept it to themselves..lol
Yes this is a Mac, but I have it on my Windows laptop as well. There are lots of different keyboard out there, depending on what kind of keys are used a lot in certain languages or countries. Such as having the ç on French keyboard and I obviously have a € key on my keyboard (it's under the 2). But I was very surprised to see that this | particular key was such a new thing to most of you!! I always use it when I write credits in the gallery.
the key on my key board is not a straight line... but two vertical dashes... like a colon mark ( : ) but with lines instead of dots. Which is weird, since it is very clearly making a long single pipe line>>>> |
Perhaps the middle has faded away? Leaving : even though the key is |? Ever read someone's hashtag post, but substitute the word pound instead? Yeah, that's fun. And did "Pound" come to the keyboard first, or the telephone? I wonder if automated voices will change their message from "Press Pound for more options" to "Press Hashtag for more options".
Hahaha...I just tried to figure it out and was like...why am I only getting ?'s!!! Then found the "other" \ and I got it!!!|||||||||||||||||| Thanks Anne!!!
I'm not sure re: faded keys... according to Wikipedia - it was the number sign on the keyboard first - on phones it had to wait for touch-tone phones. ETA - the wiki article also explains that Canadian-English phone lines by Avaya change it from "pound" to "number" on their automated line. In Europe, "pound" is actually a different symbol - for the money.
I | had | no | idea!!! and yes, it's on my keyboard. Who knew? not me. Maybe one day I should go to the Apple store and ask for a keyboard class. Anne, you know he's now the "Designated Survivor". God help us...
@bestcee see, not just me and my keyboard!!! I also checked my work keyboards.... my laptop has a straight line, but my bigger "plug in" keyboards have the dashed line.
Ha! I just love your excitement over this, Anne!! I found it when I was doing Week in the Life one year. Ali Edwards did her posts like this "Week in the Life | Monday Words and Photos" and wanted to know how she did it.
Thank you Anne! I was unaware of this and will now use it in my journalling |constantly!| and it is also on my PC keyboard just above the enter key but my right hand covers it up while I'm typing so I was unaware of it's existence (that's my excuse anyway )
