How do you organize your stash?

I have always just organized it by store. Thats it. All my stuff is in folders with the product name and designer.

I find this isn't working for me anymore. I don't want to use lightroom or anything, I like my folders (I'm old ok!!!)

So how do you do it??

What about it isn't working? How do you LOOK for your stuff? Because ultimately it doesn't matter what any of us do. What works for you is probably different.

Well I just kinda look around and start opening and closing folders and and and ugh. I can't really find stuff easy. I'm thinking maybe organize by store-designer? I usually know what product has been created by what designer.....right now it's just all a mess.

I was just curious what others do, might be some good ideas I haven't thought of.

I just organize by year, then by store and that's it really. I find that if I am looking for something in particular, I use TLP store search a lot lately (since the site renewal) and then check my stash if it says I already have something.

store>designer>kit for me. I'm working on cleaning up those folders (so I don't have kit>paper and kit>elements AND kit>etc whatever else) to just have one folder per kit. And I am also working on one big previews folder that will have all preview images from everything. My ideal situation is having my previews folder be tagged with categories like my own personal store... my biggest issue is not being able to see/remember what all I have. So, I buy a "boy kit" because I really like the teal and brown combo, only to find something else later that really was exactly the same color wise. I need to save money, so I need to stop buying every single thing that's pretty... so that's for me. As Lorry mentioned, one method is not going to work for everyone, and everyone's method is going to be different. For me, I know where to find things in this way, so I'm keeping it that way. It's just a matter of knowing what I'm looking for in the first place, so I can then go find it when I want it. :)

@klee73010 yes that exactly how I think I'm going to do it.

and I hear you and buying pretty things....oh boy. I need to save some money too but there is so much goodness in the shop. aaaahhhh

My folders are just: Kit Name, Designer(s)
Really just so the credit tracker script will work. I actually find things with tags so I guess that's not helpful. Although you can tag things without special software, I sense that's not what you're after.

@lorryfach What is this credit tracker script you speak of??

I always "rename" the kit folder, copy, then paste that into the file info of my LO.....

the lily pad
designers
collabs
m3
byoc by month
and I use search and put in alpha, button, umbrella, sun and it all comes up magically? lol

I'm by store, designer, and then kit/item.

I use the kit Previews and scroll. Each album is a kit/template pack/whichever it may be and sorted alphabetically. I usually have the previews bigger and scroll.

If I need to reference a certain BYOC or MPM, I honestly look through the store to see them all together. Though, this usually means something I missed before goes in my wish list or I purchase it! LOL!

I'm store folder - designer - kit.
It works for me because I can search for 'staple' in the windows (PC) search within a designer or just the store {although the store folder is so big!}, then open it.

I will admit that I'm leaning towards putting all my kit previews in Lightroom so I can browse that way. If I do, I will tag the preview with designer and store name. I miss having all my templates organized by the number of photos, so that is pushing me to organizing both pieces.

YW @Cath_ It's just the software I use, Photos by Mac. I choose to organize as easily as possible, only since I don't have time really to tag and I don't have the patience to organize any more detailed than this.

@lorryfach really hit the nail on the head above... It really all depends on how you look for stuff for your own organization to work! :)

@bestcee Do you have one huge store folder and then all the designers/kits in another or they are all separated into each kit?

I'm lucky that designers use some sort of description in their file names or when I do look for something I wouldn't find it! It's not often, but If I do search, I use a word like "staple," and then it tells me the info/location or brings me to the album. Sounds similar to your search method, Courtney.

I've heard of template organization by photos, and tried it in the beginning but realized that usually I like to pick templates, and then fill the spots. I will occasionally need a specific number, but most times, I take too many pictures. :giggle

So my top folder is
TLP
Then inside that is Onelittlebird, Fiddle Dee Dee, Etc by Danyale, and so on.
Then if you open the Etc folder you will see: gypsy, pandemonium, Lifetime stories, and so on. If you open the Gypsy folder it's everything in that one spot - the alpha, papers and elements. There's no separate folders within a kit {unless the kit came with 6 alphas. Then I leave an alpha folder}.

Does that explain it better?
