Tearjerkers

    Have you cried over a book?

    The Velveteen Rabbit gets me every time, but sometimes, books that aren't necessarily sad, will sneak up on me and I'll tear up at some point. :cry

    I hate when authors really lay it on thick to try to make you emotional, but when someone can give you "the feels" without being manipulative, it is effective.

    What about you?

    I was a mess reading If I Stay last summer. I was reading it while at the pool with the kids... thank goodness for sunglasses! I have a tendency to tear up more in places that I don't want to. I could read the same book at home and not shed a tear, but be in public and it's a whole different story! So strange! I also have a tendency to get tear up more if I'm reading aloud to the kids. When I used to read to them all of the time, I would find myself getting choked up reading aloud where I might not silently reading.

    84 Charing Cross Road gets me every single time. I've probably read 10+ times and now I tear up in anticipation of the sad part.

    I think the last book that made me cry and I am not one to cry easily was "Me Before You", by Jojo Moyes. I read it twice and it got me both times!

    Not that I necessarily want to have a good cry, but I put all of those books on my list to read.
    This summer, I read When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin and I unexpected was fairly emotional reading it. It wasn't that I thought that it was the best book ever, but it certainly pulled at me emotionally.

    I have definitely cried over books. I really not a crier either, so if a book gets me it's because it really made me FEEL. I agree to Me Before You, but the one that really knocked my socks off recently was The Language of Flowers.

    I cried my eyes out reading Bright Side by Kim Holden .... I bought the second book but I haven't been able to make myself read it yet

    I have to update to say that since looking at this thread, I have read Me Before You, If I Stay, and 84 Charing Cross Road. And I think I got a bit teary in a few of them, but I managed to avoid the ugly cry.

    Now, The Fault in Our Stars gave me the ugly cry a few years ago when I read it. I am going to have to check into the Language of Flowers.

    this is the most different book I have ever read and highly recommend it!!
    and as for Fault in Our Stars I shuddered in tears...I read it as my brother was fighting cancer..and it helped me relate with him, but oh did I bawl.
    My twin girls just finished My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult...and they were weeping so hard..
