to move all of my TLP products onto an EHD and delete them from my hard drive. EEK.

I have everything backed up on an EHD but I still keep the folder on my hard drive for peace of mind and easy access.

However, my computer is running super slow and I need to purge. Again.

The things I still use and search through (like my TLP folder) are the only BIG things left. I also have all of my photos on my hard drive which take up tons of space.

I'm a paranoid freakazoid. But it is for a good reason. I had an EHD hit the floor with the help of a child (it literally "crashed") and nothing was recovered off of it.

So... I can back up to 2 EHD and maybe keep one plugged in for easy access?

I have got to get this under control. I only have 111 GB left on a 1 TB hard drive. My iMac is not happy with me :giggle
 
this is the second backup, not just one, right - then i say go for it! i am double backed up but still paranoid, so my downloads folder is pretty ridiculous right now - but i am going to move everything (supplies) except for the current month's stuff to the ehds (and then check my back blaze settings again) - lol! (my mac might be down waaaaaay lower than yours right now...oops)
 
Does Backblaze back up EHD? I've had terrible luck with online back-up but haven't tried them.
 
I keep all of my scrapbook stuff on a portable EHD so I can move it with me easily (I'm on a laptop). I have a regular EHD hooked up to my laptop most of the time that is partitioned to do Time Machine backups and serve as a second backup for pictures, etc. My PS is running as slow as molasses at the moment so I probably need to start moving stuff to my second EHD and get it off my main hard drive. But first, I need to back all of my photos up at Zenfolio.

All that to say... yes! Back that stuff up and move it off your hard drive! ;)
 
Everything I have is on an EHD, zips in one partition, extracted in another and its all backed up to Crash Plan :)
 
I have all my scrap stuff and all photos earlier than 2013 on an EHD. Both that drive and my iMac are backed up to a second EHD via time machine.
 
I keep my digi stuff on 2 EHDs b/c my pc is older and getting full. The other plus about having the digi stuff on small EHD's is that I can bring one with me when I travel so I can scrap when away from home. I buy the small ones that are just a bit bigger than a pack of cards so they easily fit into my laptop case or travel bag.
 
ditto - most of my scrap files are on an EHD and backed up at Backblaze. Just my most recent downloads on my machine. You can do it! :)

I've been considering the same thing, but haven't had the courage to yet take the plunge. My iMac has somewhat slowed too, but I think the reason that it has slowed isn't because of my digi-stash, but is more than likely because of my font stash. :crazy

I've gone through and purged quite a few recently ... er, wait ... that's not entirely true ... I purged like, three and then disabled a TON and it seems to be running just fine, for now.

I'm thinking I will probably move all of my fonts to an EHD that's dedicated solely to fonts and will eventually do the same with my digital supplies.

Does anyone use ACDSee Mac Pro to organize their supplies? I'm wondering how all the tagging in ACDSee will play out if I move everything to an EHD. Will my tags stay intact with the move? And if I move everything to an EHD will I be able to utilize the tags from my MacBook Pro? Does anyone know?
 
I feel your pain. My computer is straining lately. I moved some older digi stuff to an EHD a while back and haven't moved anything off my computer since. EEK!
It's all backed up to crash plan, and a secondary 2tb drive, but I am still too paranoid to take it off of my pc.
 
As long as you have your working files on one EHD and your back-up files on another EHD, I think you're safe to delete them off your hard drive. Maybe have a stiff drink first! ;)

I don't use ADCSee but if it tags the METADATA itself, it will be fine. I tag photos in LR and know if I move those, I need to do it in LR or LR won't recognize the files (b/c they are not where they are supposed to be). It also tags in Metadata so where ever they are, they stay tagged.

I have a sneaky suspicion that PNG files do not allow you to tag directly to Metadata, however, so those may not transfer. The files are just not big enough to handle permanent tagging is my impression. That said, even those will be read in LR if moved within the program so may be the same w/ ACDSee.

Have I confused you more? hehe

LOL. Good suggestion re: that drink. I'm a total wuss. But tonight is Extra Back-Up Night. Sounds exciting, right? :giggle
 
You're right, PNGs won't tag metadata. I have to backup my Organizer from Organizer. I wish it would all go into a file and not just be a long list of stuff on my EHD though.

OMG, I am so paranoid now about my EHD being dropped. I guess a second one with a complete system restore for both laptop and desktop is on my list now. I have a portable 1TB I use for photos and scrap stuff-adding fonts to that list too. I have over 800 fonts. I have a problem.

I have all my digi files on an EHD. My photos are on my computer, which gets backed up on another EHD.
Everything gets backed up online.
 
I have my stuff backed up on 2 EHDs and one stays plugged in, the other on stand-by. I also have Backblaze backing it up, too :)
 
I wouldn't rely on just the EHD. I did as I needed space on the desk top that I use for business and the new EHD had a hard drive failure - I lost everything on there. Thankfully I had almost all of my photos on dvd, but the digi files and pages were lost forever. I now have Backblaze (no ehd though)/
 
Make sure you move any tagged files from within the ACDSee program (i.e. don't move them in the mac equivalent of Windows Explorer). ACDSee will not like it!
 
backblaze does back up ehds, but they gotta be connected :) I have zilch designs on my hard drive, and my photos are on on EHD too! Backblaze is my back up. I do make DVDs of all my photos quarterly and send to Gramma!
 
It's totally okay to get that stuff off your computer. I don't have a single thing stored on my computer's hard drive. I store all my photo and digi supplies to my EHD. That makes is super easy to switch to desktop or laptop and know that I have everything with me. I have two extra backup copies of everything too. One copy is at home and I keep another EHD at work and back up to it every Friday as my offsite backup. :) Hope by now, you've already pulled the trigger and are done cleaning up. :)
