It's Holiday break this week for our Summer School, and since it's so hot where I live right now (like over 100 degrees Fahrenheit) HOT, :drool I've been looking through the Winter, Christmas and Document Your December sections of the Lilypad store while dreaming of a White Christmas and singing "Let snow, let it snow, let it snow"! I could go for some of that fluffy white stuff right now to cool things down a bit here. :giggle

Winter/Christmas around here means snow, so for today's tutorial we are going to learn how to combine a snowflake brush with paint/transfers and dimensional snowflakes to let it snow on our layouts.

    Let it Snow Tutorial

Now here's the fun part. I'm using Photoshop Elements 2022, but the steps are similar in other versions of PSE and in Photoshop CC. If you use a different scrapbooking program that can't use brushes, you can use the brush pngs in place of the brush/stamps and manipulate them to get the snowy look.

I'm using snowflake brushes from Allison Pennington's Snowed: Wordage to let it snow on my layout.

Load a snowflake brush of your choice:

    1. Click on the brush picker drop down
    2. Click on the 3 lines in the corner
    3. Select Load Brushes and navigate to the folder for your brush and click ok.

    Select a snowflake brush:
    1. Click on the brush picker dropdown
    2. Select a snowflake brush
    3. Click on brush settings

Adjust the brush size and settings:
Note: Adjusting the scatter and spacing will spread out the brush when you click and drag it on your layout to get separated snowflakes in one stroke. See the circled brush area to see a preview of how it will look.

Add snowflake brushes to your layout:
Note: I hid the other layers so you could see the different snowflake brush layers on my layout.
    1. Make sure to make a new layer for each type of snowflake so you can move and adjust them to your liking. Feel free to play with different colors of snowflakes too.
    2. You'll want to add snowflakes in different sizes depending on the look you want. Bigger snowflakes for ones that are closer and smaller snowflakes for ones that appear farther away.

And that's it... easy and snow much fun, right! :agree

So fun! It's supposed to be record breaking hot this week- so it was fun to look back at these photos! I used a super old snowflake brush from Mommyish- I don't think it's even active anymore on her site- hope that's okay! ;)

I turned Kim J's snowflake in Bloomin Flakey to a brush and used that. I did three brushed flakes behind the Winter title. Then I put a PP on top of the blue BG paper and put a layer mask on it, then I brushed the flake brush I'd made on top to reveal some of the paper in the brush shape. Fun challenge...thanks!

I used a brush from my "legacy" brushes in Photoshop so I have no idea what it is from. I also used a snowflake stamp, scatter, and elements.

Thanks for hosting this fun challenge Kayla!
I completed the bonus challenge by adding white brushed flakes (copied from the bottom left gray flake) to the blue background paper and by adding pink brushed flakes (copied from the top right gray flake) to the yellow paper behind the photo.

Such wonderful frosty pages... perfect for cooling down and dreaming of a white Christmas. Remember you don't have to do a snowy page to participate in this challenge, just scrap your favorite winter activity. :agree Keep those pages coming... only a couple days left to be entered for the prizes.

First of all - thank you for the tutorial. I really didn't know I could change settings on brushes like that! I'm not a brush girl, probably cuz I've never properly learned to use them, so I didn't have any good brushes. Used a really old one I found on my EHD + a snow flake brush that are in PSE. Then I added a style to them.

Here's my layout, showing my favorite activity on a snowy day:
