Hello everyone, can you believe it’s already July? Ann-Sofie here and this is my month to host Rachel’s Mixed Media challenge, but before I present the challenge, let’s congratulate the June random winner @trekmom. Rachel will be in contact with you for your coupon as soon as possible.

This month I want you to dig into your stash and find some stamps to create a patterned paper to use in your page. You can make a background paper, but it can also be a paper used as a backing for a photo or similar. I want the stamp/s to be clearly visible on the paper, it can’t be just a little stamp in the corner, it should make a pattern of some sort. I want you to use at least one stamp and a maximum of five stamps to create the patterned paper. You can blend the paper with another paper as long as I can see the one you made clearly.

I used a leaf stamp from Soulangeana collection to make a repeated pattern on my paper. This is the paper I made and as you can see the pattern is not perfectly aligned in any way, but that’s what I love about mixed media, it doesn’t have to be perfect!

I opened a new canvas and imported a green background paper and my new leaf paper that I used the darker blend mode on. This made the green background paper visible beneath the pattern. I also made a copy of the leaf paper that I used the divide blend mode on, which made the pattern white. This is how the paper with the divide blend mode looks on top of the green background paper.

I put the three papers on top of each other and by just nudging one of the papers a tiny bit I got this nice textured paper to use in my layout. I love the texture, the pattern almost looks embossed.

And here is my finished page where I used the paper. You don’t have to complicate the making of the paper and blend it with another paper, but I really enjoy testing out different blending modes and discovering new great effects.

    Recap:
    1. Create a patterned paper with at least one type of stamp and a maximum of five types of stamps.
    2. Use the paper in your layout. You can for example use it as background paper or backing of the photo.
    3. Use whatever you want to finish your layout.

    Challenge Requirements:

    * Your layout must be comprised of 100% Rachel Jefferies products; 90% must be currently available in her store. You may use up to 10% of retired products.
    * You may use items from any collections of which Rachel was a part.
    * Upload your layout to the Rachel Jefferies Designs Gallery at TLP and list the products used in your credits.

    * No double-dipping…your layout must be used for this challenge only, no others. You must create a new layout for this challenge.
    * This challenge will remain open through the end of 31st July 2022.

    Prize:

Thank you for this challenge - This was FUN! (a.k.a gôrsköj!)

    Here's my layout:

Started with a with background and one of the stamps of the kit. Duplicated the stamp and spread it over the background. Then I merged all the stamps together to create on layer. Took a solid blue paper and clipped to the stamp layer. Then I took 2 other stamps from the kit and arranged around the edges of the paper, merged them into a layer and clipped a solid orange paper to them. Between the two layers of stamps, I placed one of the wall-patterned papers, and changed the blend mode on it to Difference. And that's my background. Then added the elements & the photo.

I wasn't thrilled with the page above and made another, I know it doesn't count as two tries to win, but I wanted to try this again.

What a great challenge! I used the butterflies stamp repeated, converted to black and white, desaturated and added a bevel.
