I am not usually a procrastinator... until it comes time to wrap the Christmas presents. For some reason that task seems daunting to me if I don't keep on top of it and then we end up with a huge pile of gifts to wrap on Christmas Eve and that's when I usually realize we are out of gift tags! Eeep! So, in the hopes to help you avoid that problem, I'm here with a couple fun tips on how to make your own gift tags without any special machines or equipment. Last year I showed how to make your own stickers, so if you DO have a Silhouette type cutting machine you can refer to that tutorial and get extra fancy, but this year we are going to keep things simple! TIPS: 1. Make square or rectangular shaped tags so you can use a straight paper cutter or just scissors 2. Add a big enough blank space to write one. I have found that sometime gift tags have a tiny little space and I can't fit the full names in there! 3. Use multiple colored backgrounds so you'll have a gift tag to match no matter what paper you used to wrap with. 4. Stay away from the edge of the page so your tags don't get cut off. 5. Put similar tones/colors of papers next to each other so if you don't trim exactly on the line, it won't matter so much. You could also add a white border around all tags to eliminate overlapping papers too. 6. If you have small children who believe in Santa, use a font to add their name and Santa's name, so they don't recognize your handwriting! 7. Print some gift tags AND cut them ahead of time, so they are ready to go when gifts start rolling in! I am including a very simple Gift Tag Template for you to download. This will give you a jump start on making your very own gift tags. You could also make some for birthdays to use later too! Here is a peek at some the gift tags that I made using the template I created to share:
Thanks for the tips and the template Karen! The white border is a great idea; I hate having an edge that doesn’t match the tag because I didn’t cut it perfectly!
Karen, these are SO cute!! Thanks so much for the template! I'll definitely be making some tags! I actually ordered a bunch of wrapping paper this year - I usually use gift bags, but I still need tags!
Karen, I couldn't wait to try these! I'll probably tweak them a bit, but had to show you what I did so far. I made the white part a little bigger and made the TO FROM bigger. Thanks so much! I never have tags at the last minute. I have a little tiny hole punch, so I'll punch a hole and add some string.
I got some holes punched and some baker's twine in a few of them. Now my dd wants some. LOL I'll post a picture when I get a few more done.
I decided to use NBK's Bits and Pieces and use the brushes/paint work. I put the paint on top of the little tag, then selected the tag using the marching ants and made a duplicate. Finally, I removed the gray tags, so when I print them, they will have a white background.
Karen, I finished up some tags and thought I'd show you how cute they look. I punched tiny holes in them and added baker's twine. Thanks again.
This is a wonderful template-thank you!! I used Just Jaimee's Tis The Season papers and solids from Amy Wolff's Mega Solids, 1 & 2
