Boy oh boy! I know what you mean. Cos it happened to me with hamsters & Syrians. I started with an abandoned, then another pair of abandoned. Then another from the local SPCA. Then another pair from a fren's breeding pair. The most number of hamsters & syrians I had was 6.
Lucky, this epidemic didn't affect the pet-dog sector that badly. Altho I did help to foster some dogs before rehoming them.
