Journal:
Growing up I was in love with a Christmas blub that hung above my grandmother's TV around the holiday season. It had once belonged to my great grandmother and was passed down to my grandmother. Ever since I was a young child I remember being attracted to it durring the holidays. It played my favorite Christmas song after all, The Little Drummer Boy. Something about this old fashion blub spoke to me. I remember the story my grandma told me of how it came into my great grandmother's hands all those many years ago. How my great-great grandfather had owned a corner store and wanted to purchase a special gift for each of his girls for Christmas that year and how they were short on money so he had to save each penny he had to scrape enough to purchase these Christmas blubs for each girl. Each girl's Christmas blub was unique as they each played a different Christmas song and displayed different pictures on them. I always found it so heart warming how much love and thought went into this gift. How this Christmas blub was homemade with so much love.
It was years later that I on Christmas Eve would be at my grandmother's house as a married woman with children of my own opening gifts to find a package under my grandmothers tree, not noticing something missing from above her TV that very year. Opening that box, I was to find that same Little Drummer boy Christmas blub I had come to love all those years ago.
Today that Christmas blub isn't put away for the year. It is displayed year round on a book case in my house for all to love. It still plays my favorite holiday song. It is cherished and loved. Someday I hope to pass it down to one of my children or grandchildren so that they may cherish it as much as generations of the past have.
This is beautiful Kari! I am so glad that you are now the proud owner of that precious bulb. I love the way you scrapped it and love the beautiful story of your Great Great Grandfather. I am thrilled that you display it all year long and still plays that wonderful tune. Very precious! I love the varigation from the matching red to the sunny orange tone. Thank you for sharing and playing along with my MOC11 day 7 Heirloom Challenge!
