The volcano of Nisyros - the most impressive sight of the island. This volcano is unique in Its existence dates back to ancient times and is the youngest active volcano in Greece. There are ten craters in the bottom of the caldera, the largest crater is called 'Stefanos'. The crater has an elliptical shape, a length of 330 m and the shortest axis is 260 m long, while the depth goes to 27 m. The volcano forms a valley (caldera) that is 2,400 meters long and 950 meters wide. You can walk into the Stefanos crater and look at the bubbling steam vents

Note:
Series of earthquakes shook Greek volcanic island Nisyros in late July - early August.
The strongest earthquake hit on August 1, with a magnitude of 5.3.
Geologists cannot yet say whether this series of earthquakes is related to the active volcano of Nisyros.
The earthquakes were felt throughout the southern Aegean, including Crete and the tourist islands of Rhodes and Kos. Fortunately, there were no casualties and no reports of damage.

Thanks for looking
