Journalling- 294 words

In July 2018, I had a dream about my grandma and the only words she said to me were, “You finally came.” I woke up with a strong need to talk her. Unfortunately, she passed away in 2002 and I have never got the chance to meet her. After calling my dad and talking it over with my husband, my son and I decided to drive the two and half hours to where she was buried and “meet” her for the first time. I went to get flowers for her grave and really wanted to take her a butterfly but couldn’t find one. Once I got to the little town she grew up in, I met up with my cousin and we drove to the cemetery. On the way I told her about wishing I had a butterfly for grandma and she said that grandma had always loved butterflies. After talking to grandma, we were all standing near the grave, the wind stopped and out of nowhere, a beautiful butterfly fluttered around us and landed on my shoulder then flew around and landed on each of us. We all stood in silence.

For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to and loved butterflies. Every year, there is a butterfly in the oak tree in our front yard and it always comes and lands on me when I sit on the porch and I think it is amazing.

I didn’t realize until then that the butterflies were my grandmother coming to visit me.

Once we left the cemetery, we stopped at a little thrift store and the first thing I saw was this butterfly which is now placed above my rear view mirror so Grandma is always watching over me.

That is such a lovely tribute, and, though I am so sorry for your loss, you have created a gorgeous page to tell your story.

It did give me chills. Someday I'll tell about the bee that visited for the week after my dad died. The universe is a wondrous place. I love all the butterflies used in your page. Thank you so much for joining the storytelling challenge!
