Journaling:
He was a cop, I a student. We’d met before but on this night
we were with friends at a local haunt. When “Strangers In
The Night” began playing, he asked me to dance. Something
about that song, about his smile, about his gorgeous eyes,
set me atwitter. A friend and I were leaving early the next
morning to drive to North Carolina. I couldn’t forget the
impact that dance had on me. At 4:30 AM, I demanded we drive
by his home before leaving for our own journey and left a
note on his car windshield: “Stranger, call me when I’m back in
two weeks” with my phone number. He did and within
eight months we were married.
We just celebrated our 51st anniversary, and I still get
butterflies and goosebumps when I hear that song. We’ve
been known to stop cleaning the garage and dance to
it in the driveway; stop pulling weeds and dance in the
garden; and sing-along while riding in the car. Thank you
Frank for being a very important part of my history!
