Journaling reads

The last half of 2003 through the middle of 2005 were relatively regular years - if there is even such a thing for Salvation Army Officers. There’s a daily routine that revolves around the church schedule and a second routine that revolves around social services, then a third that revolves around emergency shelter and food services.

Seasonal programs changed the routine. Christmas brought little rest and much work. It was my very favorite time of the year and no stress compared to my 10 years at FedEx, even in Tulsa where we served 22,000 people. Springtime brought Senior’s Camp, Men’s Camp, and Women’s Camp. Summertime slowed down in the office and the church schedule was lighter, but we each had our assignments for young people’s summer camp, sometimes we did two apiece and the other was at home to handle the work alone for the week the other was gone. The whole family got to go to Family Camp. All of these were hard work but oh, so fun!

But, spring, summer, and fall also brought tornado and hurricane season. They were hard work and not fun. Satisfying to know you helped but heart-breaking and brutal, physically and emotionally. It would be this aspect of the work that shattered our lives and changed them forever.

Really great idea to group them onto their own papers. Love it!
