Journaling reads:
Third Grade was your best year ever! Mrs. Kunkel was an incredibly loving, organized and all-around awesome teacher. From early in the year, you two made a special connection. Her support for you as a high-achieving learner was fantastic too. She stretched you, encouraged you and, truly loved you and your classmates. It showed! The class really was like a family and that made it extra fun for me to volunteer. I was a weekly helper in your classroom and got to know Mrs. Kunkel very well. At the end of the year, I helped the kids to create a special shadowbox of hand-crafted butterflies as a keepsake. She was so touched that we all cried. It was hard to say goodbye to Third Grade and to Mrs. Kunkel. After we left school on the last day, we arrived home and got this email from her: “I truly can’t thank you enough for all you did this year. Not only did you do all the room parent tasks, but you made me feel so very appreciated. The time, (money!) and efforts you spent on Buy Day and the parties was above and beyond what I have experienced in all my (many!) years of teaching. Add that you have such a wonderful daughter and you spoiled me rotten - I scored big time this year. The butterfly shadow box will be cherished. Thank you! Thank you! It will be a challenge for any class to measure up to this one. I will try not to shed any tears in August when I see all my third graders separated and in fourth grade without me. Julia is a treasure as you well know. She is that way because of you and Kevin. I wish all my students had such caring, well-adjusted, realistic parents. The McCandlesses make a difference.” She’s right, Julia, you are a treasure! -May 2016
Oh, I felt the happy and the sad all at the same time when I read this! It is so hard to move on from those special teachers, both for students and parents. I love how you captured everything with such heartfelt journaling!
What a special relationship! it really helps to have such a devoted teacher and no doubt Julia will carry her memories of her teacher in her heart for years to come. Stunning page Laura!
once again, I love LOVE and love it more when you scrap!!!!!!! Love this, the photos are so beautiful, love the card you chose, the whole thing is elegant, classy and full of feeling, emotions that come through so well with your amazing journaling!!!! (which I zoomed in the page 10 times to read, and only after I saw you transcribed LOL) I was always very close to all Sarita's teachers, and remember well the pride and beauty in my heart when she was praised by them.... also I have to add: the McCandless definitely make a difference. I know the difference you make in my life (and so so many others I know) is huge and has taught me so much, the feeling you give to so many of us who have a heavy fight with our health (and anyone really, you are so so loved!!!!) is priceless....
Amazingly gorgeous page!!!!!!!!!
one thing I thought ..is how the hug photo is so so beautiful and reflects an amazing, caring teacher....and how I was shock by a teacher in Sarita's primary (not hers, another grade's) who wouldn't hug her, and pushed her away in front of me and a bunch of kids and parents on pick up time..... here in the UK the politically correctness and the extreme detachment is something so sad
anyway, again: LOVE this!!!!!!
oh this is beautiful Laura, and a lovely scrapped memory .. not only did Mrs. Kunkel make a difference in Julia's life, but you all did the same for Mrs. Kunkel which is wonderful . (I too had an elementary teacher named Mrs. Kunkel. She was an art teacher.. I loved her too! ) Absolutely love seeing you scrap.. the composition is awesome and I love the border trim with the stitched down wooden brad heart.. so sweet!
Simple, but colourful, with lots of space for journalling. "Mrs. Kunkel" is such a great name for a 3rd grade teacher. It's like something Beverley Cleary would have made up.
Laura scrapped a digi page! This is such a treasure Laura. I think we can really appreciate reading Mrs Kunkel's words because we also know everything she said is true! Love the title with the flair "O" and the tab in stripes under the photo of Julia to draw attention there. This page just gives you the "happies" all around!
Wow, fabulous memory keeping, love the smiling photos, heartfelt journaling and the stitched paper strips top and bottom with their dimensional shadows is wonderful, love the extra element in the journaling that allows that details to just pop.
this is such great memory keeping - that will be a teacher that she remembers (well both of you) for a long time and what a lovely email, just a gushing email that was - i was nearly in tears and it wasn't even at me! love the combination of elements and title replacing the 'o' and highlighting the 'julias a treasure' part and just the design -everything's beautiful and clean and hope grade 4 is going well!
