journaling: One day I tried to dry a load of laundry and nothing happened when I clicked the start button on the dryer. It sat for about a week until it was either figure out what was wrong with it or go to the laundromat. James was gone fishing and I did NOT want to go to the laundromat, so I watched a couple YouTube videos about the most common reasons a dryer won’t start. I pulled the back panel off and tested the 2 thermal fuses with our voltmeter. (I had to watch another YouTube video on how to do that) Then I pulled the top off and tested the door switch. All of those were fine. I thought it wasn’t getting power because the light inside wasn’t working. I pulled the light bulb out and realized it was burned out. So I went to Ace to get a new one hoping I would be able to at least tell if the dryer was getting power or not. Ace didn’t have the right bulb, so I sat in the car and looked at Lowes and Home Depot online. Home Depot had what I needed so I drove there and bought a 2 pack for $4.50 and came back home. I replaced the bulb and it immediately lit up. On a whim I just happened to try to run the dryer after that and it magically worked! I can’t believe the whole dryer quit working because the stupid light bulb burned out! Talk about a completely stupid design! Anyway, I’m thrilled that I was able to fix it and we didn’t have to call a repair man to come out just for a broken light bulb.
We'll call you the handyma'am! I've actually fixed my washer and dryer using youtube videos and buying parts from the local repair shop. I was able to get 24 years out of my last washer/dryer set before I had to replace them.
