Journaling Says: (Word Count:566)
Why do I scrapbook? The simplest answer is….I can’t help myself.

The question leads me to one of my own ….”Are You Telling Me Some People Don’t?” (Ok, so I know not everyone does.)

Documenting life seems to just be inherently in me. Growing up, my cousins and I LOVED to sit on the couch together looking through Grandma’s photo albums of our parents as kids and photos of ourselves from younger days. My Grandpa was the photo taker of my grandparent’s relationship, but my Grandma documented the days. My version of these skills from the both of them has morphed from glued photos into a spiral bound book of construction paper to digital scrapbooking today. My first scrapbook was made of my Band Trip to Orlando, DL as a Freshman in High School. I worked on this book on my bedroom floor for days. I was part of the yearbook staff at school, essentially scrapbooking the school year for the student body. In my early years of marriage as I finished college and funds were tight, I scrapbooked our dog and the flowers in the summer. As I said, I’m pretty sure I just can’t help myself. As the years have passed, scrapbooking has become more than just an activity completed in solitude. The subjects of the scrapbooks have changed with life and is now a “sport” completed with a team of people closest to me that have been there cheering in the best of days and holding me up in the darkest of days. Scrapbooking now provides a group of women that support each other through all else, and its no longer just about getting the book completed but about the fellowship and a little about the great food too. Prior to birth of our second child, I was able to attend a Scrap Retreat with a friend where we took a class on Digital Scrapbooking. We vowed as we were hauling all our totes of paper scrap supplies to our cars at the end of the weekend, that we would be back the next year with just our laptops. I had the bonus of late pregnancy bedrest that provided me the time to teach myself/learn Photoshop Elements, show off the program to my sister and come garage sale season, all paper scrap supplies were sold. That friend and I returned the following year with just our laptops! I’ve been blessed to be able to help not only my sister, but my Mom too learn photoshop and now once a year, we pack up those laptops and all gather for a 4-day weekend of scrapbooking, documenting, remembering, encouraging each other, enjoying the fellowship and food. I know for me its one of the best weekends of the year for my soul. The connection scrapbooking has provided for all of us is like none other. Besides all those benefits, scrapbooking has allowed me an additional way to connect with my sister despite the physical distance between us, it provided a creative outlet for my thoughts when days were dark plus a way to focus on the good that happens in life despite any other circumstances that are happening. One of my greatest joys is watching my kids snuggle up on the couch together and look through books, giggling, asking questions, and remembering.

Why do I Scrapbook…..because why wouldn’t I with all it has to offer.

This is wonderful! I loved reading your journaling and love the design with the cascade of word snippets, word art, and elements down the side of the page. Thanks for playing along with my challenge!

Such beautiful words and designs! It is so much easier to eat all the snacks while digital scrapping vs. paper, right!?!

Great theme for a page! Love the informative ‘about me’ journaling, the choice of dark background, camera embellishment and clustering. #journaling #MOC9-2 #whyiscrap
