Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am back to bring you another TLP member spotlight! This month I asked the other Polly’s here at the Pad to help pick a member to spotlight. We chose Jenn, aka jk703, to spotlight. Jenn’s beautiful gallery and forum participation caught our eye and we knew we needed to spotlight her. Let’s sit back and take some time to get to know more about Jenn!
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
Jenn: Jenn, jk703 (sometimes The Typative Scrapper)
Jewelle: Where do you call home?
Jenn: New Jersey – between the NJ shore and NYC.
Jewelle: Are you a digital or hybrid scrapbooker? Or both?
Jenn: Digital. I started with paper in 1999 and for years I was a card maker, stamper and scrapbooker. Then I had kids. Kids, glue and glitter wasn’t the best situation. Then I found digital scrapping. That was it, and I was hooked. I tried a couple hybrid project, but quickly realized that all digital was for me.
Jewelle: How long have you been scrapping?
Jenn: Digitally since 2010, it was very intimidating when I started. Paper scrapbooking and stamping in 1999.
Jewelle: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
Jenn: Most of the time, the kit. Other times, it could be challenge requirements. Photos, journaling and titles are always last.
Jewelle: How would you describe your style?
Jenn: Clean lines, bigger pictures, smaller clusters, photo treatments, always include journaling or date at the least, and titles.
Mix of double pages and single pages.
Jewelle: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
Jenn: RadLab for my photo treatments. As for actual techniques, there are so many. I like to try out new to me techniques, and then write super easy tutorials, so my pages will show the techniques that I currently love. I’ve gone through embossing, blending, gradients, painted edges, even a saran wrap look plus so many more.
Jewelle: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?
Jenn: I used to spend way too much time figuring out my font for my layout. But then, I figured out how to preview it right on my page. Though now my go to font is Special Elite, I do look to see if something looks better. Here’s how.:
First step is to have the Type Tool as your selected Tool. Then click on your journaling to see the dashed box around it. Next, you will highlight the text that you have written. Last, you will click on the Character Menu, and locate the font drop down menu. Click inside – where you see the actual fonts name, aka Century Gothic or Special Elite. Now, just use your arrow keys and scroll through your fonts slowly. Your journaling will change every time you press the arrow key up or down. So easy to preview! You can also change the size and leading as well!
Another useful one is Symmetrical Re-Sizing – Hold down the shift key as you are re-sizing and it will stay in the correct proportions. I dislike skewed photos, lol!
Jewelle: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
Jenn: Not usually. Most of the time, my husband is watching a TV show, so that is the white noise in the background. I find that I need some type of noise going on.
Jewelle: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
Jenn: I usually don’t snack when I scrap – only because I scrap at night most of the time. I try not to eat after 7:30, BUT I always have water or Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi nearby!
Jewelle: What time of day do you feel most creative?
Jenn: Probably evening, and night time. Only because that is usually the time that I have to scrap.
Jewelle: Share with us your three favorite layouts.
Jenn: This is so hard. I love old ones, new ones, the ones I’m working on, etc… lol!
Jenn: The photo in this layout has become a favorite! The inside joke between brothers – who don’t always get along – really melts my heart. Plus, the photo treatment from the original is 100x better, lol!
Jenn: Bright colors speak to me. This layout, and double, have the bright colors, but lots of photos, journaling (P2), title work and some patterns. It embodies me as a scrapper, I think.
Jenn: A different layout for me, with no pictures, but will always be a reminder – Get in those pictures! I love the red on white with bits of black. Strings, scatters, tape and a little paint are always favorites.
Thank you Jenn for letting us learn more about you!
