I know you’ve all seen the Mixed Media Monthly kit and add-ons. I’m pretty sure you’ve probably wondered about what goes on in the Mixed Media forum. And I would hazard a guess that you may have even considered why you should make the leap from traditional scrapping to using mixed media supplies. I promise you, it really isn’t scary.
There seems to be a big imaginary division in those who scrap traditional pages, and those who play with mixed media. Of course there are those who straddle both sides of the fence as well, but it is sort of ironic to me because when I first started scrapping (and hoarding supplies) at the Lilypad, it seemed that pages here were a lot messier and less traditional. That is what drew me to the Pad. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with traditional pages. I love to scrap traditional style. I also love the clean and/or minimal look but, cannot for the life of me, seem to pull it off. For me, the freedom of being able to play around with texture and color is amazing. I also appreciate the fact that I can create a page without having a perfect picture to go with it. I can use word art or elements that are symbolic/placeholders for things that are going on in life. I can explore another dimension to this wonderful hobby by mixing it up a bit. I can draft poems or letters to my family. I can make mistakes. I can expand. I can try new things.
That is one of the reasons that the Lilypad is one of the best places in digi-land. We can have the best of every style and the opportunity to try out all sorts of different things. Mixed media supplies do not have to be used solely for art journal type pages. It is perfectly okay to use them for traditional scrap pages. Heck, you can even use the M3 stuff with templates (and there is a template included in the monthly kit). It is all good.
Pages don’t have to be filled with some deep dark secrets or express profound emotion. You can create just for the sake of creating. You can explore texture and color. You can have fun. You can be silly. You can laugh.
In the M3 forum, there are monthly challenges with fabulous prizes, tutorials, random bits of inspiration, designer chatter, and links to expand your scrapping horizon. And pages. Glorious pages. Pages filled with fun & whimsy. Pages filled with emotion and expression. Pages with a special touch that takes it to the next level.
If you are feeling adventurous, check it out. Join in. Push beyond your comfort zone to try something new.
Or take another look at this month’s products and some pages of inspiration and think about it again.
