Hey there Lilypad peeps!! It's katrinahunt, aka Katrina, here today to share something different on the blog. Well, at least for me! I have a hybrid process video share. In my mind all the digital scrappers can figure out how to hybrid scrap if they want, but not all traditional scrappers know the joy of hybrid or how to even start. I get so excited about hybrid and I want to share that excitement with other scrappers! In the layout above I used the FiddleDeeDee Designs template kit "Fun in the Sun", along with the Becca Bonneville kit "Let's Get Lost."I go thru the steps of how I start, decide what to print, and how I use the print and cut feature in Silhouette Studio. So, if you are curious about how I approach hybrid, you can check it out in the video below! And Cheryl from FiddleDeeDee Designs did a digital process video along with me! And here is hers! … [Read more...]
Recreating Painterly and Blended Background Photo [with video]
Hey everyone! I thought I would do a quick post on how I did the photo blending on my background on this page with the November 2016 awesome M3. A lot of this was learned from Jana and the November 2016 Champions at Scrapaneers (which featured an awesome kit of Lynn's!).First off you are going to need a smart phone, or know how to recreate your own pencil like sketching in your photo editing software. I used the Prisma App for both of my photos editing but for this little tutorial, I am going to focus on the blended background photo.Open your photo in Prisma and you will find all kinds of fun filters to create painting/drawing effects on your photos. These change regularly! So if there is one that you like edit a bunch of photos with it and save them because it might not be there long! For my photo I ran the #GettUrban filter. I wanted to keep some of the blue of … [Read more...]
Create a Card: Packaging Technique for Backgrounds
I enjoy giving cards to family and friends. Cards are perfect way to send birthday wishes, celebrate a special event, or even to just say hello to someone. I always try to have a selection of homemade cards on hand to give out for any of these occasions. I’ve noticed my supply of cards has been getting a bit low and committed myself to making a few cards to bolster it up. New adventures/traveling is the theme of today’s card. I also am sharing a video on how to create a card background using the packaging technique.I know quite a few people who are starting new adventures this fall. While adventures can be exciting they can also be nerve wracking too. What better way to help calm the nerves of someone than to give them a homemade card with well wishes in it? A card about exploring the world was begging to be made.To make this card I used the following supplies: Roam … [Read more...]

Mixed Media Monthly: March edition of Scrap with Heather
I know I say this every month, but the colors and the theme of this month's Mixed Media Monthly is so gorgeous! This is such a great intro to spring! I decided to do something a little different this month. Normally, I do a pretty flat art journal page. I just love all the flowery elements and wanted to do a more traditional photo-less scrapbook style. To do that I just added a larger shadow to the elements to make them pop off the background a bit more.Last week in the subscriber forum, I started a series on design concepts and when I started putting the page together, I naturally went to using the rule of thirds. Also, when I'm bundling little clusters around the page, I like to work in odd numbers. When I would drag over a flower, I would use CTRL + J (Command + J on a Mac) twice to duplicate it twice more for a total of three. It's a fun easy tip when pulling together a … [Read more...]
Video Tutorial: Add Transparent Text to Photos
Hi, all! I'm here to bring you a little tutorial on adding transparent text to your photos. If you make it until the end of the video, there are a couple of other little tips as well. As always, there are several ways to do this, but I found a little shortcut so thought I'd share. The video was done with PS CC but has a work around for PSE. I'm sure you can also do this with other programs as well. And once I started playing, I couldn't stop. You'll find that you may just get addicted to this technique. [youtube=http://youtu.be/Thy4uBojvHQ] Be sure to check out the FONT category in The Lilypad store. There are some awesome fonts and dingbats in there and I always seem to find something I can't live without! Let me know your thoughts on this (or anything). … [Read more...]
