After being purely a digital scrapper for so long, I've forgotten the unique issues that hybrid and real life paper crafting can create. And because I'm a documenter of processes, and always trying to refine things and learn from them, I'm sharing some of my adventures here too. These are some of the practical issues I've run into and my trouble shooting in learning to use the Silhouette Cameo 4. Some of the 'solutions' may be obvious but to me they weren't necessarily as some of this is quite new to me. And yes, this is set up like an interview but I talk to myself usually while crafting apparently so this is almost like a transcript of 'calm and logical' me giving advice to 'mildy annoyed to frustrated and ready to give up' me.(Disclaimer: I am aware that giving yourself advice in an area you are new to can be a bit like the blind leading the blind so some of this calm and logical … [Read more...]
Tutorial Thursday | Silhouette Photos
Hello scrappers, Kayla, aka keepscrappin, here with a Tutorial Thursday. The Threshold filter (Photoshop & PSE) is an adjustment filter that converts a photo to pure black and white, creating a silhouette. Here's the steps in PSE and they are similar in PSCC. Sorry I don't have the steps for other programs, but you can probably search the internet to find a way to get a similar effect in your program. Duplicate your photo (File -> Duplicate -> OK) and close the original. Double click the background layer to unlock it. Select the photo layer and go to the half filled circle in the layers palette or select Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Threshold from the menu bar. Click ok. You will get a threshold window. You can change the Threshold Level if you want. I moved the slider to the left to get more white and detail in the … [Read more...]
Tracing PNGS For Use In Hybrid Scrapbooking
Hey Lilypad peeps! It's Katrina aka @kathunt13 (or hybrid girl LOL) sharing how to trace PNGS specifically in the Silhouette Studio software and also how I speed up my hybrid process by doing this. Now, be prepared, I have about 15 screenshots, but I am showing step by step on how to do this and how to make it quicker. Part of the hybrid process for me is the time it takes getting things ready to do a hybrid project. This process is something that I do when I don't feel particularly creative or just plain don't want to scrap. It's an alternative to making a page and a stress reliever for me! It's also great when we go out of town and are just sitting around doing nothing in particular! Some designers ( I won't say all, because I don't know!) include the element PNG and then element sticker PNGS. Honestly, unless I have trouble with the regular PNG for some reason, I usually … [Read more...]
Happy Pi(e) Day-Use that Pie Chart!
Happy Pi Day, or as I like to call it Pie Day! It's Katrina, aka katrinahunt13, back after a short absence to share a hybrid layout with you today. When I saw that 3.14 or Pi Day was open for a blog post, I jumped on it. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and it DIDN'T have to do with math!Pie charts are fun elements to incorporate into your scrapbooking pages, whether digital or hybrid. For my layout today I used a template from FiddleDeeDee Designs called Piece of the Pie (Dressed Up). This is a great place to start with pie charts if you aren't used to working with them. There are so many things you can do, but I honestly kept my pie chart pretty darn simple!I print my papers thru Photoshop on my wide format Epson printer. This also allows me to resize the original files down to 6x6 square and then print four prints on one page in a smaller scale. Even if you don't have … [Read more...]

Hybrid Boo Banner with Bella Gypsy Designs
It's Katrina or kathunt13 giving you a fun and quick idea for a Halloween decoration that you and your kids could complete together. Did I mention quick?! I am a sucker for banners to decorate with. Plus I love to create them, so bonus! Have you seen the Halloween category in the store? There are LOTS of fun goodies in there on sale. I picked up the Bella Gypsy Wicked Cute Bundle to work with and I am in love with all the color, patterns and elements. We also have a fun Halloween Bash going on in the forum. You can find it HERE.So this was so simple to make. I actually used my Silhouette with the print and cut feature, along with pulling in patterns and filling shapes, but you can easily do this just printing out and cutting by hand. This took me about an hour to do and that includes figuring out what I wanted to use! This would be so cute on your front door, on a mantle … [Read more...]
