Digital Art Journaling for Scaredy Cats

Digital Art Journaling for Scaredy Cats

by Tangie Baxter

This class is for scaredy cats who want to learn DIGITAL art journaling!

This class begins February 7th, 2018 and will be live for 2 weeks at which time it will become a self-study course that you will have lifetime access to.

Have you ever said?
I'm scared!
I'm doing it wrong!
I don't understand, what is it?
Help me, I want to play!
I don't know where to start!
I'm not that creative!
I'm not a "real" artist!

I've heard it all in the last 8 years, and I truly believe that I can help you get over all your fears (or at least learn to be best friends with them)!

Join me as we learn the very basics of art journaling and what it ACTUALLY is (hint: visual exploration). You'll also learn why being a "real artist" has nothing to do with art journaling and why ANYONE can do it. You even get a fancy certificate to give you permission to make "terrible" art (not that I believe there truly is such a thing)...but you'll have to join us to find out more.

This class is going to be BASIC but not BARE! I'm going to spoil you beyond belief, and hopefully, when you graduate you'll feel empowered to make art a process and jump in with two feet.
You'll receive:

  • Introduction to Art Journaling by Tangie (Vlog style video)
  • 3 Step-by-step digital art journal pages by Tangie (video lessons)
  • Digital goodies that go with each of the videos so you can re-create them yourself right along with the videos ($10+ value)
  • 1- "Live" webinar (TBA) that will be recorded (so if you are in a crazy timezone don't you worry!)
  • 30 ways to conquer a blank page with art journaling ideas prompts and challenges
  • Style Finder: I go in depth talking about different styles of art journaling including freestyle, modern, grunge and more
  • Other activities to help you go from "Scaredy Cat" to "Cool Cat" in no time!

It's one thing to chose NOT to do art journaling because you've tried it and it's not for you...
But it's NOT okay to be scared and never discover for yourself what it has to offer you.
Come, discover, play and be brave, you may just find a part of yourself you never knew needed to be set free.

Want a few more details?

  • You will need PSE/PS or equivalent, this is NOT a "How to Use Photoshop" course so you will need to have basic PS skills or take my Photoshop for Mixed-Media class first
  • This class will be released over the span of 2 weeks, but you can work at your own pace (everything you need will be downloadable/watchable in the classroom)
  • This class takes place off-site in a private classroom, offering you an amazing state of the art classroom experience (you will get details in your download after purchase)
  • Lifetime Access to the classroom to work at your own pace  (it never expires as long as I'm teaching)
  • You can use any designer supplies, I never require you to use my supplies in my classes

So hear this rally cry scaredy cats! I'm here for you, let's do this thing! I promise to be there every step of the way.

There are few things in this world I like to do more than play my watercolors! They are a unique medium that lend themselves to ~*PLAY & EXPLORATION*~ in this class we'll dive in together to learn the basics of watercolor, including mixing our own unique signature colors, but mostly we'll be explorers! Day of the Dead Craft Party

Day of the Dead Craft Party

by Tangie Baxter

"The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos or All Souls' Day) is a holiday celebrated in Mexico to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Celebrated on November 2nd, traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts." It might sound a little morbid, if you aren't familiar with the holiday, but it's a major cause of celebration in the Southwest.

Art Journaling for Kids Online Workshop

Art Journaling for Kids Online Workshop

by Tangie Baxter

Imagination is more important than knowledge.

Dave, Sammy and I have been talking about this for a long time and decided that the time is finally right! We are ecstatic to announce that our entire family will be teaching this new online workshop for kids and the young at heart! We've been doing Summer camp for kids in our Studio for a few years now and Tangie owned her own preschool for 4 years!

This workshop will focus on the heart of what art journaling truly is and we hope to inspire a lifelong passion with art journaling in your child!

A few of the ideas we'll explore: Imaginary creatures, Sweets & Treats, Sammy's dolls in watercolor & collage, Robots & Not so scary Monsters, Scribble Flowers, Collage in all its wide variety, basic watercolor techniques, doodling and tangles, plus so much more!

Anyone who says you can't see a thought simply doesn't know art.
-W. Reynolds

What you receive in this workshop:

  • Access to our secure offsite classroom for your family (only one workshop needs to be purchased per household)
  • 30+ Videos by Sammy, Dave and Tangie Baxter creating 30 Art Journal Projects (The focus of this workshop will focus on watercolor and collage, using supplies you can usually find at home).
  • 30 Downloadable, Printable PDF files that match the lessons with supplies used, sample of finished project and journal prompts to use while creating art journal pages from the videos. (Watching the videos will be required for the "how to" portion).
  • These videos will be released each Tuesday until they are all released
  • Several Bonus Collage Sheets to print and use (optional)
  • Lifetime Access for your child to work at  his/her own pace.

The journal prompts will be thought provoking but appropriate for children (or the young at heart). This class is perfect for children ages 4-14 (But truly why not 4-104?!).

Please note that our samples don't have journaling on them yet because journaling will be done in our "quiet time" videos which are part of the classroom. Journaling is a very important part of this course.

What do you need? (links for reference, give you an idea of the type of materials needed, many items you may already have or can be picked up cheaper at your local store)

  • A place where children feel like they can create freely (perhaps on a tablecloth all their own)
  • Composition notebook (will wrinkle, but will be fine!) or watercolor journal. We are using these Fabriano journals in our video, the paper wrinkles but we love it!
  • Crayola or Prang watercolor set
  • Paint brush(es)
  • Set of markers & Crayons
  • Glue sticks
  • Appropriate magazines to cut up (Don't have any? Ask neighbors or friends if they have some you can cut up, some thrift stores have magazines or you can use "junk mail" if you don't have access to any magazines).
  • OPTIONAL: Small set of Acrylic Paint or Gouache  (Some white paint would be very helpful, at the very least)

Before purchasing please note:

  • Images used in the previews are IDEAS of what the projects may look like. Actual projects may vary slightly.
  • By purchasing this product you agree that your child has permission to participate in this class.
  • Children are welcome to share their art in the classroom, but it is not required.
  • It is REQUIRED for the parent to have access to the classroom. If you would like to add access to the classroom for a child over the age of 13 you can email us once class starts.
  • Supervision of children using craft supplies and scissors should be at your discretion.
  • Parent "help" with the actual projects & journaling should not be needed for ages 4+ and is in fact, highly discouraged.

Art is not a thing; it is a way.

Junque Journal Workshop

Junque Journal Workshop

by Tangie Baxter

Junque Journals are composition notebooks turned epically awesome. They hold anything and everything and with a little know how, don't fall apart! They can hold so much "junque" that you collect in your life that you just don't know what to do with! A place for ticket stubs, letters from friends or loved ones, Christmas cards, ribbon from a package, gift cards, receipts, lucky pennies and anything else you might "pick up" along the way and not know what to do with!

I've been making Junque Journals for about 10 years, I LOVE doing them! I remember clear as a bell sitting at my computer 5 or so years ago "googling" the term "Junque Journal" not a entry to be found! I uploaded my first EVER videos I had made (my husband was holding the camera steady as it was duct taped to a broom handle) and I recorded 3 videos on my "Junque Journals" to upload on YouTube! It was a sensation and if you google "junque journal"'s a whole new world!

I'm finally coming back to this project and I hope you'll join me! All NEW videos in HD, lifetime access to the classroom and lots of printable .PDF goodies for you to use in your journals!

What you will get with this class:

  • 10+ HD Instructional Videos
Some of the information will be the same as the free videos however, I will go into much more depth. I will also be covering some basic lettering styles, collage techniques, start to finish pages, "tip outs" and "add ins", creative ways to use ephemera that you collect in your life (like ticket stubs, notes from your kids or friends, programs & Christmas cards), supplies to keep on hand for these journals and so much more!
  • 10 Printable art/collage sheet.PDFs for you to cut up
  • Printable list of 100 ideas to do in your journal
  • Photos of the inside pages of my "first" junque journal
  • Progress photos of my new journal that I will make throughout the videos

At the End of My Pen TWO {Workshop}

At the End of My Pen TWO {Workshop}

by Tangie Baxter

We're mixing things up in "At the End of my Pen TWO"--we're going to be using black paper and white pens as a way to switch this up!

How this class series started:

The power of imagination makes us infinite.

A black pen, 21 pieces of white paper, 10 minutes a day. That is all you need to join me on this new adventure!

A note found in my journal:

It would seem that I have every fabulous drawing book there is out there. Opening each one of them you think I'd feel inspired and know where to start! Instead I feel all twisted up inside & decide to forget the whole thing. But what if I drew for 10 minutes a day just because, well I wanted to. Just because I have a pen and a piece of paper? Just because I can and want to. Let go of what you see, of what you can imitate. If you drew & journaled 10 minutes a day, what sorts of amazing little art would come from the end of your pen?

This workshop is a very personal one for me as I used this technique the last few months to deal with huge amounts of stress. Sometimes, we make things so complicated. Sometimes we let art journaling be so overwhelming, sometimes we get in our own way, sometimes we buy too many supplies, sometimes we get hung up on technique, sometimes we forget why we are doing what we are doing. And sometimes  we live in fear that we don't measure up to "what others are doing". That is the worst one of all. For two reasons 1) We can only improve our talents by practicing and 2) You are you, they are them. Sometimes we need to accept our talents and abilities for what they are, not what they aren't! This isn't a drawing class, this a a doing class. This is about finding out what lives at the end of our pen, for just 10 minutes a day. This is about letting go of excuses. This is about being brave enough to find out what we are capable of and accepting that glorious discovery for what is is, instead of thinking about what it isn't.

What you get with this workshop:

  • Daily prompt and journaling idea (how to find inspiration in everyday life to draw)
  • At least 21 Samples of REAL pages from Tangie that you can download as samples
  • Encouragement and support, classroom & email access to instructor
  • Just for fun: 30 Day "I did it!" doodle chart (because it's good to celebrate each accomplishment!)
  • BONUS! I will scan in several of my pages before I journal on them for you to download in the classroom

What you need:

  • A few white pens (recommendations Signo white & sharpie poster paint).
  • 21-31 pieces of crisp black cardstock (or something like this)
  • 10 minutes a day
  • A commitment to not over complicate the process

If you missed the first class it's now available for self-study:
