Aloha Pad Scrappers!
Polly Liana here, back with more ways to use styles and a fantastic way to save a TON on a huge group of handy ones. You may remember a few weeks ago when I wrote this blog post about how to use Mommyish styles to make your title work more dynamic. Well, I’ve got a few more examples of ways that you can use some of her clever styles to make your layouts unique and eye-catching, as well as expanding your stash and making it more customizable.
The first thing I want to alert you to is this product here:
Leah from Mommyish has collected 25 of her “Oldies but Goodies” styles, put them all in one package and taken 80% off!! The whole thing is only $15 which is only 60 cents a style– huge value. These styles are really great because they can be used over an existing element to give a new look to it. Here’s are some examples in a page I made:
I used her “spray” style on the title to make it look like it had been sprayed with paint. I used “Super gloss” on the small arrow stamp to make them shinier and give them more dimension. I made one of the papers into a graph paper by running her graph paper style on it. On the green paper, I used a paper style on it that makes it appear as if it has little embossed dots. And because the characters look like they’re trapped under glass, I used the “super gloss” over it so it looked like they were really under glass.
You can give your elements all kinds of new looks with these styles. And they’re SO easy to use! Just press a button. If you don’t like it, press a different button. One tip with the styles in this set: make a copy of the element (ctrl+j or hold down the “alt” key and drag a new copy) and put the copy right over the original. Then, run the style on the top copy. If it’s a transparent-type style, you’ll still retain the colors of the original but the surface will change.
If you’re looking for a more distinctive look with more steps involved, check out her new glittered enamel pin style:
There is a learning curve to using this style but don’t worry: Leah has made fabulous videos to help you through the process. I used it for the title in this layout:
I hope I’ve inspired you to give styles a try. They really are an amazing tool when you’re looking to tweak something in your stash (or create something totally new!). At the Lilypad, we have a whole section just devoted to styles and several designers who make them. Hey, it’s Friday… if you download them today, you’ll have the whole weekend to play with them! Have fun!
