I hope everyone is settling in with the creative craziness of MOC 6 this week! Whether it is your first time, sixth time or somewhere in between, the Month of Challenges will prove to be an amazing creative journey for you. Loaded with lots of inspiration, games and fun prizes, MOC is an event that you definitely do not want to miss. If you are new to MOC, you can start at any time, so it is not too late to join in the party. Check out the Month of Challenges Forum HERE where you will find the MOC Rules and information about chats and other MOC events going on during the month of January.
If you are new to The Lilypad, you might also want to take advantage of the Something Old, Something New Sale that happens every Wednesday. For one day only, a select group of kits and digital supplies are on sale for 50% off! This sale is a great way to pick up some scrapping supplies to use for the daily challenges. Today’s sale is pretty amazing too – some of my favorite kits are in it. :)
If you are looking for some inspiration for today’s Challenge (which involves a mood board), here is the layout I created with items from the SOSN sale:
The Mood Board Challenge is definitely one of my faves! This year there is a special twist in that you get to create your own mood board to inspire your page (how fun is that?!?). If you are wondering what a mood board looks like, it is just a compilation of different images that inspire you. Here is the mood board that inspired my layout:
I was inspired by the bright colors, artistic faces, center quote and “oh so cute” fox illustration and worked all of those elements into my page. Are you ready to get started creating your own mood board? You can find the challenge HERE.
My creative time-saving tip for you today is about using templates outside the box. Templates are a great way to get your creativity flowing and to speed the scrapping process along (which is important when you are trying to complete 31 layouts in 31 days). While templates are great to use “as is,” they are also a wonderful source for overall design and element placement. For example, I used this set of templates (specifically the top right template) by Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs (which is in today’s SOSN Sale) to complete my layout:
My page obviously does not look exactly like the template itself as it is more of a graphic art journal style, but the template was so helpful in suggesting where to place the elements. For example, instead of a photo, I used that spot for the artistic face element (from Lynne-Marie’s Resolute Faces kit). Even if you are not using them exactly as they appear, templates are still a great time-saving technique. Using the template as more of an element placement map also allows you to use the template multiple times without it looking like you were creating the same page over and over again.
I hope you enjoy MOC 6 this month – I can’t wait to see all your fabulous creations in the gallery!
Until next time ~
Judie
