Hey guys… Jen here…. Ok, well as much as that song tends to pop in my head and I find myself singing the chorus ALL day long… that’s NOT the song I want you to think about for this Lyrical post. Sorry… did I get it stuck in your head? Oops.
With Father’s Day coming up in a couple of weeks I want you to try listening to this one instead… Daddy’s Hands by Holly Dunn. I am going to apologize in advance for all of you who do not like country music. Please try however, to put your disdain for the genre aside for just a brief moment so that you may really hear the lyrics.
While you are listening to this song I want you to notice what feelings surface within you and what memories come to the forefront of your mind. After you listened… and felt… I want you to go scrap a page about the father in your life. Perhaps your page will be about your own dad, someone who was like a dad to you, or father of your own children. Are there any similarities in the person you have in mind and the “Daddy” that is being sung about? Are there significant contrasts? Write about them… tell your story!

Daddy’s Hands Lyrics:
I remember Daddy´s hands, folded silently in prayer.
And reaching out to hold me, when I had a nightmare.
You could read quite a story, in the callouses and lines.
Years of work and worry had left their mark behind.
I remember Daddy´s hands, how they held my Mama tight,
And patted my back, for something done right.
There are things that I´ve forgotten, that I loved about the man,
But I´ll always remember the love in Daddy´s hands.
(chorus)
Daddy’s hands were soft and kind when I was cryin´.
Daddy´s hands, were hard as steel when I´d done wrong.
Daddy´s hands, weren´t always gentle
But I´ve come to understand.
There was always love in Daddy´s hands.
I remember Daddy´s hands, working ’til they bled.
Sacrificed unselfishly, just to keep us all fed.
If I could do things over, I´d live my life again.
And never take for granted the love in Daddy´s hands.
(repeat chorus)
