I think it's a great fit for this thread @cookingmylife ... love the soft gradient effect - adding room for your story!
Loved reading this thread that i missed back last November! woops! I'm not great with assymetric papers (they are art by themselves and i kinda can't handle covering them up!) but I do a few of the things mentioned too like the add paint/mask/a solid block to journal over to make reading easier but I think that there's 2 ways to approach BOLD papers - either let it be the focus (because bold can't help but pull attention ) OR do something that competes for focus. For this page, the paper was the star and i just let it be For this one, I tried to compete by throwing strong solid coloured elements in This one has the paint trick but to make the photos more noticable, i lined them up and basically reversed the diagonal angle of the background (same with the playing card element with the title) to challenge/compete with the background. Turn out I do this with a lot of - busy pattern background? put your photo/photo strip on an angle! And when in doubt, challenge by contrasting with a monotone photo so the eye will come to rest there
I was looking for some of my pages as 'the chef' now has quite an arm tattoo and I was trying to find layouts that show his bare arms - before. However, this is another bold paper that made mushroom lover me quite happy! Today I'd make that "let's eat" larger!
I love using bold papers. Not sure if I have any tips on how to make them work... I think in this page it helped to keep the rest of the elements, photo and papers smaller.
This one is pretty bold. I like bold, but I usually have so many photos on my layouts that the bold gets covered. This is an exception.
The template I picked had all these papers layered under the photos and that allowed me to use this bold background. Since the background is so busy, I chose to use very few elements on the page.
I looked through my papers and thought this one was so eye catching and busy, so I made myself use it!! I love this!!!!
Some great examples in this thread! This is one of my 'boldest' backgrounds and I think it works because of the photo placement but also because the photo has a pale 'background' in it which draws the eye to my daughter's face and scarf. (The paper and elements are from the free mini-kit that subscribers to my newsletter receive)
I think I'm getting the hang of using bold colours and bold patterns together for my background layers
I had never thought to load my pages to a digital frame, what a great idea...I will have to dig mine up!
