Hi all!!! In today's technique slow scrap we're going to focus on using inner shadows to create cut outs on your layouts. This is a really cool, fun technique that I'm loving these days! Oh, and I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is!!! There is a tutorial on Peppermint's blog that you can refer to along with the instructions I'm giving you below. Check it out here! In Peppermint's post, there is a free download of inner shadow styles that you can use OR I'll show you how to create the same effect by using inner shadow layer styles. Here is an example of a layout I did for this week's Memory Pockets Monthly collection using this technique and I'll be sharing examples from another layout I'm working on in today's chat. INSTRUCTIONS: Step 1 is to place the element of shape (or even text) on your layout that you want to use as a cut-out. Many kits also come with cut files included, which would make great cut outs. Step 2 is to apply the inner shadow. You can do this by using Peppermint's free download that I linked earlier, or create your own. Step 3 is to clip the paper that you want to show under to your cut out. Here's another example with a photo clipped to text: For today's scrap I would like for you to create a layout using this technique of creating cut outs using inner shadows. You can use Peppermint's Inner Shadow Styles or add an inner shadow layer style yourself. You can have a cut out of an element, a shape, or text on your layout. That's the only requirement for your layout, but I would love for your cut out to really stand out and be obvious on your layout. This is a slow scrap so you have 24 hours to complete your LO. You must have your page posted here by: 1pm EDT- May 27, 2017 to qualify! Please remember that your layout must comply with our gallery rule of 50% TLP products. I will be PMing the eligible scrappers their participation prize from this thread. I can't wait to see what you all come up with!
Thanks so much for the reminder about One Little Bird's shadow styles. My title has the style added to it.
I could not get this to work at all for me nor did Peppermint's style work.btw, Peppermint's video was not available I'm in PSE 13.. This may be why I don't use this very often! I ended up merging the word art with the yellow paper and then going the marching ants way by selecting that word art and deleting it. I then added a shadow. The bad part of this method is you can't move the cut selection as you can in Monica's method. This page came from a newspaper article today and made me wonder if we were back in the 1950s.
Thanks for the instructions! The template already had cut outs (circles), and I applied Peppermint's styles to the title.
here is mine, I cut out the top background paper! Sorry couldn't stay at chat...something came up and I had to leave.
I love One Little Bird's Cut Out styles! And I love how much dimension cut outs add to a layout. Great challenge!
This is my layout! I gave inner shadows to the date piece in the top left and the word bits in the right.
Gaah! I was saving my page and my program crashed, along with my page! I'll get it up and posted in a few minutes!
