This month's muse is THE SEA. Welcome to Week 3 Here is the main muse inspiration I want to use this month, drawing various inspirations from it to work on each week. There will be four weekly challenges, starting on Monday, June 5, June 12, June 19 and June 26. I hope you will join me! I found this image on Pinterest and have created a MUSE - THE SEA board where you can find it, along with some other images that speak to me in some way. Feel free to take a look and perhaps create a board for yourself if you use Pinterest. PINTEREST BOARD - MUSE: THE SEA Week 3 Inspiration: Textures Something else that inspired with the art piece above was the use of textures. The use of corrugated cardboard, paint splatters and rough antique frame lends a very tactile finish to the piece, I really would like to reach out and just touch it! Week 2: Create a layout about the sea incorporating some textures. Texture can be added to a digital page in many ways such as using: * gesso * paint or ink splats * ripped, creased or rough surfaced paper (like timber, cardboard etc) * scratches to distress the paper, element or photo No doubt you can think of other ways as well. Once a texture is applied you can amplify it in many ways as well like: * giving the gesso a very fine narrow drop show, just enough for it to look like it isn't completely flat on the page * using blend modes on paint and ink splats to look like they have soaked into the paper a bit * creating a duplicate layer of a piece of paper and sharpening it, then playing with the blending mode to blend it into the original A quick and easy way to create texture on a layout is to place a textured paper at the top of your layers, desaturate it and then play with the blending modes and opacity to give it a more tactile finish to it. I have elected to use the one layout for this month and just 'add to it' each week, so this is my page for this week with some texture added. What I did: I added a drop shadow to the gesso/water swirling around the doll's feet; applied sharpening to the background paper, sand some of the shells; added some paint splatters as well. You can use any size layout. The Skinnies templates available HERE. In addition @cfile created one cool triangle template that you could use (Christa's awesome template is HERE on PSD- let us know if you need any other format!). Or you can use the one layout and just keep adding to it, which is what I am going to do this month......... kinda like a progressive one, but it's totally your choice in how you do it! Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE and then post it in this thread by copying the code (at the right of your gallery image) from the box under "Share BB Code". We will draw a winner at the beginning of next month, even more incentives for your inspiration! You can use any products in The Lilypad store, make sure you follow our gallery guidelines. Pages are due last day of the month. If you have any questions, ask here in this thread. Looking forward to seeing what you creative ladies come up with for this week!
For my ATC I chose the picture because I loved the texture of the old paint on the boat. To add more texture, I blended a wood grain into the background paper and included some gesso and lace accents. Finally, the edges of the photo are torn.
I added sand under "sunkissed," an additional star fish, and the cardboard in the upper left hand corner.
I used Gesso backgrounds and then Linear Burn as the blending mode. In this specific page I used 3 different Gesso backgrounds and the magic of a vector mask.
