Oh and I missed the original question @KatrinaHunt13 I LOVE that desk. I have a 4x4 version on those shelves in my kids' play area and they are fantastic! I also bought some white plastic tubs that slide in the squares and some other baskets and they are so nice for making things look neat and tidy. Nerf bullets in one. Misc weapons in another. Balls and loose rolling things in another. Slide 'em in and you can't see the mess! Yay!
Here's some visual for you of our third bedroom. It's a little messy right now because we are starting school again, and learning happens here. But that's life.
@Karen I missed buying that desk with the curved center bit when Ikea still sold them. boohoo While I have seen some for sale on Craig's list etc I don't have any way of getting one home...and then up the stairs...when they're assembled.
And the "getting home" will be tricky and we will have to plan. We will have to drive to St. Louis and plan on seeing some friends. Then leave the dogs there and go shop. Then try to get home with everything! The bigger unit has 10 boxes and we will be in a Toyota 4Runner, with a dog crate with two dogs, plus a loose dog! LOL We will need to measure up the side of the crate to the front to see if the longer boxes will even fit. If not, there is the roof rack! LOL But I refuse to pay for shipping! Their shipping is outrageous! LOL Note, we live in Springfield Mo....it's basically a four hour drive...but only a couple of hours from our friends house! LOL
Oh bummer! I didn't realize they didn't sell that one anymore. I do love the loads of space I have with all the tabletops!
When I went to Ikea to buy all my many drawers units and table tops, I didn't even think about how it would all fit. We had a moment of "uh-oh" when we got all the boxes to the van and couldn't figure out how exactly they were all going to fit in without leaving the kids behind. Lol! Thankfully my hubby figured it out. And YES! Their shipping is insane!
ohh LOVE seeing people's spaces!!!! I scrap in the computer on an ikea computer desk I bought in the bargain corner I think it was 2004...and had a Mikael or something like that until we re decorated Sarita's bedroom and I gave it to her (total REGRET!!!!!) I ll try get some photos because the place where I was crafting I am not sure how to describe , but we have some very clever spaces in the living room...I just need more health to be able to use it again!!!!
I used to have a dedicated craft space. I had two of the recollections shelves with a large piece of MDF over it as my standing desk and a large bookshelf for storing albums and storage boxes. Then we moved... Now all of my shelves are in other places being used for different things. I can't wait till we get settled in our permanent home so I can have my space back.
I'm lucky in that for the moment, I have dedicated craft room set up with Kallax units from Ikea and a series of desks (also Ikea, can't remember the name unfortunately) taking up the remaining wall space. I'm also a paper-crafter so I needed the storage! The irony? Since my son was born, I'm more inclined to pull stuff out of the craft room and work at the kitchen table so that I can keep an eye on him!
LOL...I will probably do that some too...not because of a child, but just because! LOL I really would like the double table Kallax set up. One good reason is because it would give me enough area to cut fabric out! I am still plotting and planning trying to figure out what is going to work for me! Do you do any hybrid? We would love to see it!
i threaten to turn the toy room into my craft room every time we have guests over and the kids won't pick up their toys but i just have a big double door cupboard and desk... the sewing machine lives in the box in the linen cupboard, only used less than a handful of times, i think if it were permanently out i'd use it more... we have that ikea cube in the front room though and it has my scrapbook albums in one of the cubbies, most of my house is ikea - i hope you figure out what to do - this thread is full of ideas now!
I know right?!!! I wasn't going to post because well "paper/hybrid" girl here and figured it probably wouldn't be much of a topic! Who knew!!!!
Just a head's up on the Kallax desks for cutting - they're not overly stable. My mum, who's an avid quilter, decided against them for cutting tables for this reason. Mind you, she cuts out a lot of quilts! I do a bit of hybrid sometimes - I'll see if there's anything good enough to share.
I remember going to Ikea back when we were doing our kitchen and getting waylaid with a craft/sewing room that had so many clever ideas. That was back when they weren't so happy about your taking photos...now everyone does all the time. I wish I had photos of that room display because many of the product uses were kind of hacks...i.e. using an item in a not so normal way.
@Meredith78 Ekk...would they not be good to "sew" on? I was planning on setting my Bernina machine on them and using them as a sewing, plus scrapbooking space also!!
My daughter has this set up with the large book case and the smaller desk. This is a new style you are showing with the legs. The one she had was kind of the waterfall style that we are seeing in kitchens. It lasted a long time for her, but eventually the waterfall failed and the whole table came crashing down. It was a bummer. Still the storage is great and I think with those legs the desk would be much better. As for my crafting space, we have a large house (2600sf) which has 6 bedrooms. Initially, we had the smallest room as the craft/office space, but it was upstairs, so hot, and impossible to watch kiddles from. So, now, I have a regular sized bedroom with a sliding door to the backyard in it. I didn't feel comfortable having kids sleeping there where they could escape outside anyway, so it's a good fit. I can leave the slider open and watch/hear them play while I scrap! It has a couple tables from IKEA in an L shape, and my old bar height dining table in it, with the dog's crates under and the dog food container on the side of it (dual purpose zone, lol). My computer has 2 monitors and I have a tv hung on the wall so I don't get lonely, lol... To top it all off, I have a set of wooden shelves that were installed upstairs in the small room when we moved in. We brought them down to the new crafty office and they are working great there. I'd take pictures but then you'd see the mess, lol... Huggles!! ~Sarah~
Well, after looking and thinking..and then I got on Pinterest, I may have a start of a plan. A sturdy table looks pretty easy to make...and I could make it with cube storage on the ends and then a board painted with polyurethane on it. We were in Target last night and I mentioned "cough cough" that I had an idea and wanted to look at something. Roomie was agreeable to it and said she could make the table no problem! She has some tools, electric sander, etc. I am thinking of using the 9 cube Threshold storage from Target on the ends and then a big ole piece of board on top. The storage cubes are 44 inches "wide" (meaning that's how wide my workspace would be across) and about 43 inches high. That would be room for both of us if she wanted to come in there to work on painting pottery, etc. The table would be a little higher, but I don't really mind that since I am tall. The cubes are 14 inches deep, so that's my main concern. Now I just have to figure out how long of board. Bonus, she said if we are doing this she wants it done before winter!!! Woot!
