Hi guys! I'm going to this huge lights display and was wondering if any of you with DSLR cameras have any recommendations for getting awesome shots.

    Thanks!

Can you set up a tripod? Long exposures and small apertures, which requires setting the camera on a tripod or wall or something sturdy, have given me my favorite night photos.

But most of all, don't forget your camera like I did when we went out to look at lights this evening! :eyeroll :P

If you are using auto-exposure, you might want to take some practice shots. I found I needed to darken the exposure compared to what auto did.

For fun after you get the nice pics, try blurring it on purpose (camera shake/flip) or out-of-focus. You can get some cool abstract pics that way.

How did it work out? For me it depends on whether I'm standing or in a car.

I have better luck with my iPhone when taking pictures of the lights.
