Canada celebrated it’s 150th birthday this year.
While there was much the city and country planned for people to enjoy,
we mostly stuck to ourselves this day, enjoying the holiday with family.
We started the day off by visiting Grandpa and Grandma VanderVeen.
It was a special visit – the last home visit before Grandpa passed away.
(Vanessa and James had one more hospital visit afterwards.)
Grandpa was in good spirits & his memory & concentration was sharp,
so we left with smiles on our faces.
Next, we spontaneously stopped in at Jon’s parent’s,
and spent some time outside there.
While driving, the kids belted out a favourite: Joshua Giraffe, by Raffi.
The afternoon was spent around home, including the planting of an
autumn blaze maple tree, to commemorate the occasion.
In the evening, we brought supper and ate with Rachelle,
then walked from her place to the Legislature Grounds,
staked out an ideal spot, and later watched the fireworks,
along with Shaun and Ashley and family.
This day also was Jonathan and my 11th anniversary.
