Hello all my artsy friends and welcome to the end of Daylight Saving Time. The Daylight Saving Time tradition started 100 years ago and was originally organized by the German Empire and Austria-Hungary as a way to conserve coal during wartime. The practice waxed and waned over the next century, but became widely adopted in North America and Europe during the 1970’s as a way to address the ongoing energy crisis. By shifting time forward at the beginning of Spring, and backward in the Fall, the practice provides longer hours of evening sunlight over the Spring and Summer seasons.
While many debate whether the daylight saving shift has any net positive effects, it seems that it is here to stay (at least for the foreseeable future). I love the idea of gaining an extra hour in the Fall. How many times during the year do you say “I wish I had more time” or “If I only had an extra hour”? Well, at least one day during the year, your wish is granted – so make the most of it!
I take note of the extra hour and try to spend time each year doing something just for me. Starting a new creative project, reading a book, scheduling spa time or planning a special family outing – things I would not normally have the time to fit into my schedule. This year, I spent my “extra” time working on artful projects and waking up my creative side.
This is one of my bonus hour projects:
I have been itching to play with the November BYOC Collection and I definitely wasn’t disappointed – it is amazing! I also used Somewhere in Time – some awesome (and theme appropriate) templates by Fiddle-Dee-Dee Designs and Basic Timekeeping by ForeverJoy Designs (another theme appropriate kit).
Make sure that you take full advantage of the extra hour today – and do something that makes you happy. :)
Until next time ~

I love the idea of using the extra hour for yourself! I was just grateful to have an extra hour of sleep after staying up way too late ;)
