Happy Tuesday everyone! I’m just popping in today to share a tip on extending your digital stash by creatively using journal cards. I love it when I can use digital elements in totally unexpected ways. It really extends the size of my digital stash and shows the versatility of digital kits.
Here is a page that I recently created. Can you see how I used a journal card?
Need a hint? Here is the preview of the set with the journal card that I used:
I used the bottom right 4×6 card – but in two different ways. First, I blended the card onto the background by placing it where I wanted the face to appear and then setting the blending mode to Darken. This mode focuses on colors that are darker than the underlying layer and erases all of the lighter colors. After setting the blending mode to Darken, I masked out the part of the card that I did not want to appear on the page. While the card layer is active, click on the mask icon (rectangle with a circle in the middle) and then paint on the mask layer (which will appear right next to the card) with black in the areas that you do not want to appear.
Second, I framed the word art on the card and layered it on top of the blended background. Looking at the page, you would never know that that it was created with a journal card.
Here is another page with journal cards blended into the background using the same technique discussed in step one above:
Don’t assume that journaling cards are just for pocket pages or for use as an actual card element. Be creative and extend your digital stash by playing with blending modes and converting cards, or word art strips or stickers into stamp-like elements on your background.
I hope you have fun with this technique!
Until next time ~
