To keep with the birthday theme, I have a very simple hybrid tutorial for you today! My husband and I enjoy sending out birthday cards to our nieces and nephews. We have over 30+ of them! Up until now we have been keeping track of their birthdays on this ragged, crumpled, and ripped piece of paper. I got fed up with this piece of paper this week and decided to create myself a much nicer way to keep track of the birthdays. I decided to create a perpetual calendar! This is what my calendar looks like...Lets get this tutorial under way!Supplies Needed:2014 Calendar Cards (4x6) by Lili NiclassStoryteller January 2014 Journal Cards Extra Patterns by Just JaimeePresentation PaperAdhesiveCutting tool (Precision scissors, Silhouette, … [Read more...]

Lights, Camera, ACTIONS!
Hi Happy Scrappers,Liana here, with a few words about using Photoshop Actions. When I first started in photography, I drooled over the photos that had that extra "oomph." I could tell the photographer had done something to them in post-processing… popped the colors or eased them back into a vintage look. As I poked around and read tutorials, I learned about Photoshop Actions. Actions are little scripts that run in a specific order to do something to an image. To make them, you press the "record" button. Then you do whatever actions you want to capture (in order), and then save the collection. From then on, if you run your saved "action," it will do the same thing to any image you have open. For instance, if I wanted to turn an image black and white and then sharpen it, I could press record and then turn my image b&w and sharpen it, then press stop and save. From then on, … [Read more...]

Exciting times at the Lily Pad, everyone is busy with the Month of Challenges, the fantastic regular 7 Challenges and here is ONE more challenge for you ! The Polly Picks. This go around is a dear friend Amanda Cockle aka amandac from the balmy Brisbane, Australia (tee hee, what a fun sentence to write). Here is a little about our Amanda in her own words:"I started digital scrapping in Jan 2009 and although I have never paper scrapped I did like my digital pages to look traditional. Since coming to The Lilypad and becoming a Polly I have had access to all the gorgeous products in the store and I have been able to experiment and expand upon my earlier more traditional style with brushes, paint and textures. I have even find joy in turning my hand at some Art Journaling these days with encouragement of the inspiring Anne and Dalis and I am loving it! These days when asked what … [Read more...]
Organizing Children’s Artwork
Greetings, Happy Scrappers!'Tis the season for organization and purging. Today, I've got some hot tips about how to organize the single source of piled paper in my house: my children's artwork. My daughter just turned four and she now generates page after page of artistic masterpieces, most of which warm my heart and make me want to tuck them away forever. However, I know just how dangerous that urge can be: after all, I have been a kindergarten teacher for 20 years now and back in the day I used to keep every scrap of lovely art my students gave to me. Let me tell you: it piles up fast. Eventually, I developed a purging system: first of all, I would only keep the work that made me smile or warmed my heart. If it was, say, a ripped out, scribbled-on page from a coloring book it was cherished for a day or two and then recycled. However, if it was a sweet, colorful portrait of … [Read more...]

Keeping Your OLW With You All Year
January is a time for fresh starts. We often have the best of intentions in January...I am going to stick to Project Life this year. I will lose that extra holiday weight. I will stop (insert bad habit here). You get the idea. One thing that has become popular in helping to try and keep to resolutions is picking a One Little Word to guide through. 2014 marks the 7th year I have participated in OLW. While some years were more productive than others, one thing that I have found to really help me is keeping a visual representation of my word. As Scrapbookers, the first obvious pick would be to scrapbook your word. Polly Heather has scrapped this beautiful insert for her project life album:Another great choice is jewelry. One of my lovely Facebook friends Jane, recently had this bracelet made by Lisa Leonard. Not only is it gorgeous but it also includes her past OLW's too:While I usually … [Read more...]
