Macro photography can be fun for everyone. There is something so interesting in getting up close and personal to your subject with your camera.Macro photography is defined as a 1:1 magnification, so if your subject size is one inch, it projects at life-size at one inch on the camera sensor, so the subject would take up almost all of the image size. A 1:2 magnification is also great for close-ups, even though technically it isn't considered macro photography. The working distance is the distance between your lens and the subject. Nikon has a 200 mm f/4 and Canon has a 180 mm f/3.5. These macro lenses have a long working distance. I use a Nikon 105 mm lens which requires me to get a little closer to my subject than those two lenses but does a great job. What can you do if you don't have a macro lens? There are a couple of options. One is to use a telephoto lens and try to … [Read more...]

Tips for Fun Levitation Effects with Photography
Hi Pad Scrappers!Polly Liana here with some fun levitation effects to try with your photography. When my daughter first tried on the garden fairy costume I made her for Halloween, she said, "Mom, can you figure out a way to make me look like I'm flying in a picture?" I was excited because I had always had a fascination with levitation photography." Basically, it's using special Photoshop effects to make it appear like your subject is floating or flying. It's actually a lot easier than it looks! It's important to note that this effect is most easily done by using Photoshop but there are probably other ways to accomplish this. Here's how I did it:First, set up a tripod, and plan on taking a wide shot with a preferably busy background (forests and trees are great for this!).Set up your subject, standing on a chair or balancing on their stomach on the top of a ladder. It … [Read more...]

Gratitude Album in a Traveler’s Notebook
November is a month that is traditionally known for giving thanks. Here in America, we're looking forward to a day set aside especially for that later this month. One of my favorite mini-album projects I've ever completed was doing a 30 days of Gratitude album. I did this several years ago in a 4x4 instagram album. I wanted to revisit this concept for a mini-album again this year, but in a different format. This year I'm completing my 30 Days of Gratitude Album in a traveler's notebook, a format that has gotten more popular in the scrapbooking world over the last couple of years. So far I am really delighted with how this album is turning out.I purchased my traveler's notebook from Michael's, but they're available online as well and you can even make your own!For the cover I cut a notecard I had that said "grateful and thankful" into a square and adhered it with … [Read more...]
